First Aid at Work (FAW)
This H.S.E. approved course is run over 3 days.
The First Aid at Work course is suitable for anyone who is to be nominated as a first aider at work or anyone who wants a comprehensive first aid course.
Each delegate will receive a first aid manual to work from which can be kept for future reference.
The topics covered on this course are:
- Aims and principles of first aid
- First aid in the workplace
- Responsibilities of the first aider
- Contents of a first aid kit
- Action in an emergency
- Casualty assessment
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Resuscitation
- Breathing disorders
- Disorders of circulation
- Wounds and bleeding
- Disorders of consciousness
- Foreign objects
- Burns and scalds
- Bone, joint and muscle injuries
- Poisoning
- Incident management
At the end of the course, subject to completion and final assessment, delegates will receive a nationally recognised H.S.E. approved First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for three years and will be able to respond to an accident or illness in the workplace safely and effectively. Although not mandatory, the H.S.E. strongly recommend that an update should be undertaken each year to help first aiders maintain their skills and keep abreast of any changes to first aid procedures. On the third year, a two day requalification course will need to be undertaken in order to maintain the qualification.
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
This H.S.E. approved course is run over 1 day
The EFAW course complies with Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E) regulations and enables delegates to be able to deal with a variety of emergencies in the workplace where a three day First Aid at Work qualification is not deemed necessary.
Each delegates will receive a first aid manual to work from which can be kept for future reference.

- Responsibilities of the emergency first aider
- Contents of a first aid kit
- Action in an emergency
- Casualty assessment
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Breathing and circulation
- Resuscitation
- Breathing disorders
- Wounds and bleeding
- Other conditions
At the end of the course delegates will receive a nationally recognised H.S.E. approved Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for three years and will be able to respond to an accident or illness in the workplace safely and effectively. On the third year, this one day EFAW course will need to be undertaken again.
First Aid at Work Requalification
This H.S.E. approved course is run over 2 days
This two day requalification course is designed to refresh the knowledge and skills of existing workplace first aiders and cover any changes to first aid procedures.
Each delegate will receive a first aid handbook to work from which can be kept for future reference.

- Casualty assessment
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Resuscitation
- Breathing disorders
- Disorders of circulation
- Wounds and bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Disorders of consciousness
- Bone, joint and muscle injuries
A current First Aid at Work certificate must be shown to the instructor on the first day of training to ensure eligibility and the course completed within 28 days of the certificate expiry date. This course may be attended, however, up to three months before the certificate expiry date. Subject to completion of the course and final assessment, delegates will receive a nationally recognised H.S.E. approved First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for three years and will be able to respond to an accident or illness in the workplace safely and effectively.
First Aid at Work & Emergency First Aid at Work Annual Refresher
This H.S.E. approved course is run over 3 hours
This three hour course is designed as an update for first aiders who hold an Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work qualification as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E).
The topics that are covered in this course are:
- Action in an emergency
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Resuscitation
- Wounds and bleeding
- Shock
Delegates will be able to refresh their knowledge and skills and receive up to date information on any changes to first aid procedures. There are plenty of opportunities to practice skills under supervision of the instructor during the course. The attendance certificate received will be valid for 1 year.
