If you’re a music fanatic, then there’s a good chance you’re off to Notting Hill Carnival this weekend. The carnival is known for its vibrant explosion of music, dance, and culture. But before you bust out the plantain and dutty whining, let’s have a serious chat. Between me and you, for festivals to start and end epically you must think about staying safe at all times. This so called ‘long’ way of thinking might just stop your phone getting stolen or potentially save one of your friend’s lives. Listen, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this blog I have done a lot of the thinking for you, you just have to soak it in. So, let’s dive in and learn how to have an unforgettable, yet safe, time at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Plan Your Journey:

First things first, plan your journey, capital DON’T WING IT.  Before you immerse yourself in the carnival magic, plan your journey to and from the event. Check if there are train strikes (spoiler this weekend there are train strikes (26th – 2nd  ). Regardless, public transport is the way to go. With over 2million people3 expected to arrive at the festival, driving and finding a space would be virtually impossible. So check the latest travel updates, and check which areas/roads are closed along with knowing where the nearest tube stations. Oh, and don’t forget to charge your phone and carry a portable charger. You’ll need it for all those Instagram-worthy moments!

Stay Hydrated:

With Notting Hill carnival you can guarantee one thing and that is you’ll be walking a hell of a lot. And that’s not including all the dancing and grooving you’ll be doing. It’s easy to forget to take care of yourself when you’re having fun but remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. The carnival can get pretty hot, so carry a water bottle with you at all times. Oh, and coconut water can be a refreshing and delicious alternative to keep you cool while enjoying the festivities fyi.

Be Mindful of Your Belongings:

We hate to be the ones to say it, but pickpockets can be sneaky, especially in crowded places. Make sure you keep your belongings safe by using a secure bag or backpack. Keep your wallet, phone, and other valuables close to your body at all times. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Stay with Your Crew:

While the Notting Hill Carnival is all about celebrating with friends and making new connections, it’s important to stick together. Agree on a meeting point with your friends in case you get separated in the crowds. And hey, if you do make new friends, that’s awesome! Just make sure you have a plan to reconnect with your original crew

Know the Emergency Exits:

Carnivals are exhilarating, but it’s essential to be prepared for any unexpected situations. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the emergency exits and first aid locations. It’s always better to be aware of your surroundings, so you can enjoy the carnival with peace of mind.

Pace Yourself:

With so much excitement happening around you, it’s easy to get swept away in the carnival spirit. But remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself and take regular breaks to rest and recharge. Your body will thank you, and you’ll have the energy to dance the night away.

Enjoy the pulsating beats, colourful costumes, and infectious energy of the Notting Hill Carnival while keeping these safety tips in mind. By planning your journey, looking after your belongings, and staying hydrated, you can ensure a fantastic time while staying safe.

Remember, the Notting Hill Carnival is an event like no other, celebrating cultural diversity and unity. So, get ready to have a blast, but let’s all do our part to keep the festivities safe and enjoyable for everyone. See you at the carnival, and let the good times roll!
