FAA First Aid for Mental Health Courses

Duration:

Level 1 – Half day £45 + VAT per person
Level 2 – 1 day £65 + VAT per person
Level 3 – 2 days £120 + VAT per person

Suggested progression: Annual refresher training

 

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, FAA have made their Level 2 & 3 courses available for online tuition for the first time. This training will be conducted online with tutoring via Zoom video calls, while you will also receive physical documents to help with the learning process.

Our online mental health training is delivered by one of our qualified health & safety trainers, directly to you through your computer, mobile or tablet device. This differs from our other e-Learning options, which use pre-recorded audio and video to teach you about the topics.

About our First Aid for Mental Health online courses

As part of our response to Covid-19, SAMS are now available to offer both the Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health and the Level 3 Supervising First Aid for Mental Health courses online using video tuition.

The Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health is an entry level half-day course designed to introduce learners to the issue of mental health in the workplace. This includes help in recognising people who are struggling with mental health conditions, and empowering learners to take actions such as referring colleagues to mental health services.

The Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health is an intermediate course certified by Ofqual. Ideal for individuals with health & safety responsibilities in the workplace, it goes into some of the causes and symptoms of mental health issues, and empowers you to provide support.

The Level 3 Award in Supervising Mental Health is an advanced course certified by Ofqual. This course is ideal for managers, supervisors, business owners and other people who are responsible for their colleagues’ wellbeing. 

The Level 3 course empowers you to provide support to individuals, exploring more conditions and topics than the Level 1 or 2. It also teaches you how to enact structural change to improve your organisation’s approach to mental health.

These online courses cover the same topics and have the same accreditation as our classroom options, with the only difference being the method of teaching and assessments. You can find out more information about those courses here:

How will the First Aid for Mental Health online courses be conducted?

The preferred method for video tuition by both SAMS and the awarding body is Zoom, a free and simple to use video conferencing app. However, we can accommodate a number of other video apps if they suit you better. Get in touch via info@samsltd.co.uk to find out more.

Assessment

Once you have gained the requisite knowledge from video tuition and study, an assessment will be carried out via video. This will take the form of an observed multiple choice exam paper and a practical assessment, the taking of which will be recorded and made available to the FAA.

Our trainers bear responsibility for ensuring that you complete the full syllabus and have the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to gain your qualification. We’ll advise you on how to complete the assessment in a way which will ensure you can receive your certificate.

Certification

A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health or Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health certificate will be issued to the learner, subject to a successful video assessment. There is no expiry of the qualification, but annual refresher training is recommended.
